Report on herpetofauna of Ustyurt (Uzbekistan) available

A comprehensive insight into the fascinating Herpetofauna of Ustyurt plateau in Uzbekistan gives a recently published biodiversity report. The report bases on results of two zoological expeditions to the central and southern parts of Ustyurt and to the Sarykamysh depression in May and September 2017.

Main purpose of the expeditions was to update current data of populations and distribution as well as trends of endemic species in this unique transboundary area. Experts in mammals, reptiles, birds and plants took part in the expeditions and again confirmed, how valuable and unique the region actually is.

Ustyurt plateau is one of the key territories for research and conservation of the unique biodiversity of temperate deserts. It is located between the Aral Sea and the Caspian Sea and covers vast areas in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

In the expeditions in Uzbekistan participated staff members of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic Uzbekistan, Uzbek Zoological Society and Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds.
